- Work directly with the Medical Director to ensure quality medical and nursing care to all clients
- Engages in and directs nursing staff in providing nursing care utilizing the nursing process, i.e. assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care rendered from admission through discharge process.
- Assures that medical orders are implemented and documented.
- Establishes and evaluates annual unit goals/objectives in collaboration with Medical Director.
- Participates in developing, implementing, evaluating, and interpreting policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care; monitors compliance with them to assure efficient and effective nursing care in accordance with agency Quality Assurance program.
- Develops and maintains regular quality and appropriateness of nursing standards and performance, with monthly reports to Quality Assurance program.
- Plans 24 hours staff coverage for nursing staff by compiling monthly schedule. Monitors and communicates all schedule requests and changes.
- Anticipates and reacts to staffing needs by recruiting staff for open positions.
- Supervises, observes, and inspects care required and work needed for unit (including detoxification residents’ rooms).
- Supervises, evaluates, and writes job performance evaluations.
- Evaluates monthly supply needs.
- Facilitates interactions of nursing units and clients with outside health care agencies.
- Facilitates, supervises, and coordinates authorization from funding sources of clients in detox.
- Participates in developing, implementing, evaluating, and interpreting CARF policies and procedures as they apply to standards of nursing care. This specifically includes mediation usage review, medication errors review, infection control, pharmacy policy and procedures, and laboratory policies and procedures, and other areas as required.
- Supervises the implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Assists in compiling and maintaining Medical Department Policies and Procedures Manual.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; with a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Reasonable knowledge of Basic Sciences and the theory, technique, and practice of nursing.
- Two years’ supervisory experience; evidence of clinical competency, leadership, and management.
- Emergency room and/or Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
- Experience in chemical dependency and addiction treatment and detoxification desirable.
- Knowledge and familiarity with AA/NA and Alanon principles deemed desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift more than 25 pounds at times.
- Pushing carts and wheelchairs.
- Ability to quickly respond to emergencies.
